Press Pass with Paige- Epic Run in With the Cops
First, let me start off by saying that it took me three times to finally pass my driver's exam when I was 16 years old. However, more importantly once I finally passed and got through the most intense 20 minutes of my life by parallel parking and using the appropriate car functions; I literally could not wait to hit the road!
I was the first out of my friends to get my license, so it was super exciting for us all. But driving quickly became a drag when I began to feel like I was becoming everyone's personal uber driver (and without pay I might add). When I thought of getting my drivers license I saw myself driving with the roof down, wind blowing through my hair, while wearing super cute shades, and on my way to the shopping mall. The reality of it was me driving my little brother everywhere he wanted to go, running errands for my parents, and having to drive to every social event my friends and I wanted to attend.
But the absolute worst part of driving was when I got pulled over, and received my first speeding ticket. And when my dad found out, he was furious and made it clear I could not get another ticket. Unfortunately, I received another speeding ticket not even a month later. The ticket was $150!!!
I still remember the incident like it was yesterday. I was driving and listening to some jams in the car. Next thing you know I see blue and red lights flashing behind me. I instantly panicked, as I replayed my dad's voice telling me I couldn't get another ticket. So instead of pulling over like a normal person, I kept driving. The police officer had to actually get on the speaker and tell me to pull over. So I finally decided to pull over. But instead of sitting in the car and wait for the officer to approach my vehicle; I got out of the car and began to walk to the cop's car; attempting to plead my case and explain why I could not afford another ticket. As I'm practically in tears looking like a mad woman, the cop jumps out and begins yelling at me telling me to get back in the car with my hands up. Not to mention the whole ordeal took place on a busy road where many seen me.
Long story short, the officer still cited me. And I had to pay for the speeding ticket and also had to attend a class where I had to take a special points quiz that put me in jeopardy of losing my license for a year. I was blessed to pass the test and ended up paying for the speeding ticket on my own. And as crazy as it sounds; my dad never found out (crazy right). Moral of the story, abide by the rules of the road.
