Saturday, July 15th of 2017 was the day where hard work finally paid off!
Former Pittsburgh Steeler, Wes Lyons and University of Pittsburgh Graduate, Amber Greene officially cut the ribbon for their brand new bakery, Cakery Square.
Over a thousand people attended in support of the Grand Opening.
Funny thing is, Wes Lyons admits to not being the biggest lover of sweets and deserts, but wanted to open up a sweet shop.
However, he also admits that he couldn't refuse the baked goods of his partner, Amber Greene He believed this would be a great business venture and wanted to create more job opportunities for youth.
"It's about more than sweets," Mr. Lyons says.
Since playing football as a professional athlete, Mr. Lyons began "The Pursuit" program for youth. "The Pursuit" teaches high risk student's grades 6-12 strategies to overcome life obstacles and how to succeed. By establishing Cakery Square, Mr. Lyons not only has the opportunity to connect with students in the classroom, but in a business setting as well. Participants from "The Pursuit" have already been hired as employees at the bakery.
The bakery will be selling decadent fondant cakes, cake pops, doughnuts, cupcakes with piles of colorful icing, cookies, turnovers, elephant ears, and various gelato. While also providing special unique gluten free and vegan options for customers.
Business Partner, Co-owner, and long time friend Amber Greene collaborated with Mr. Lyons to create the marketing plan, recipes, and special teas.
The teas are believed to be one of the hottest items on the menu. There are loose-leaf teas; Amber Bliss, Berry Bliss, and Cotton Candy and Champagne Teas; Bellini, Mimosa, and Rose.
Ms. Greene said, "I'm so excited. I'm at a loss for words."
