49th Miss Black America Pageant, Crowns New Queen!
By: Paige K. Mitchell Outside of writing, pageants are one of my favorite things! I love everything about them. I love to participate in them, watch them on television, and judge! A FUN FACT: about myself is that I personally participated in pageantry from the age of 6 until 20 years old! But enough about me... The real excitement took place on the night of August 26, 2017 during the 49th Miss Black America Pageant at Venice Island Theatre. The former queen, Nicole Lynn Hibbert crowned the new reigning queen, Brittany Lewis. The crowd was truly taken by her grace and testimony. Brittany Lewis is Graduate of Temple University, where she studied Broadcast, Telecommunications, Mass Media, and African American Studies. She is currently a PhD student, looking to continue her education. She is passionate about sisterhood and community service, and is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Part of the thing that drove people to love her, was how she shared that she lost her sister to domestic violence. As her reign of Queen she wants to devote her time to increasing communication, education, legislation, and also spreading knowledge about African American history. She wants us to return to our roots. Congrats again to Brittany Lewis on an awesome accomplishment!
