Stopped Pursuing Law School & Became An Artist!

By: Paige K. Mitchell Picasso once said; “Every Child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” This has not been a problem for Pittsburgh based visual artist, Ashante’ Josey. “Art is my escape without actually having to leave. I pour a glass of wine, turn on some music to set the vibe, and begin to unleash on the canvas,” Ashante’ Josey Said. 24-year-old Ashante’ recently graduated from Penn State University in 2016. Interesting as it sounds; Ashante’ was on her way to law school in pursuit of a promising career as a lawyer. However, she discovered that she wanted to completely change career direction and decided to make a right down artistry Avenue. She wanted to become an artist instead! “The person I was most nervous to tell about wanting to be an artist was my mother. I was nervous because I knew how much she would brag about me pursuing law school. She was so excited for me to be a lawyer, but to my surprise she was just as supportive to hear about me wanting to be an artist. This was the confirmation I needed,” Ashante’ said. Recently on March 11, 2018 Ashante’ had the opportunity to celebrate her artistic skill at Boom Concepts. This art exhibit will display one of a kind A. Josey art pieces for an entire month. “I was so happy to unveil my artwork! And people actually made several purchases throughout the event, I was so happy! My first purchase, I started crying. I couldn’t believe it,” Ashante’ Said. Every piece was done with unique texture, time, and style. Some pieces took weeks while others months. She delicately assures that every detail is in its proper place. Every stroke of the brush matters. E11even, DOPE, Embrace, and more are available to be viewed at Boom now! Ashante’ will be looking into taking part in more opportunities to showcase her work in the future, and she also wants to explore holding art therapy sessions.
