By: Paige K. Mitchell The Charlie Batch 14th Annual Wrapping Party took place Saturday December 16, 2017 at the Charlie Batch community center in Homestead. This super fun community service event has been going on for 14 years, and after taking part in all the cool festivities, I see why. Registration opened for the annual Christmas party right before Thanksgiving, and spots filled quickly. The number of volunteers were broken down into shifts and then divided into teams of 5-6 people. Each team received a family. The age, name, and gender was indicated on the card. And each team had to shop for their family, getting a minimum of 5 gifts per person; and once done choosing gifts... you had to get the wrapping. There were no bags, you had to wrap (lol). And that is where all the fun came into play. All the gifts that were wrapped for every family were then placed on a U-Haul truck and then delivered to the families on Christmas Eve by Charlie Batch himself. Roughly around 300 volunteers participated. Event Fun Fact: Charlie Batch fed the volunteers Panera Bread and Chipotle for breakfast and lunch, for FREE!
