Sugar and Smoke Has Arrived to Pittsburgh!

By: Paige K. Mitchell

Excuse me waiter, I would like to have extra syrup with my ‘Chicken and Waffles’ please. Sugar and Smoke, Southern Kitchen & Bar officially opened for business Saturday September 15, 2018. A restaurant that plans to bring southern hospitality to the Burgh! Owner, Andrea Robinson who has a background in chemical manufacturing and the food/beverage industry, decided to merge her passion for the food industry and guilty pleasure for delicious food, to open ‘Sugar and Smoke.’ “I have always loved to travel! But one of the key factors that makes traveling so adventurous is having the opportunity to explore different places, recipes, and dishes. Food has become a lifestyle for me and my daughter, and I decided to bring the food we enjoy back to my hometown,” owner, Andrea Robin said. For years, Ms. Robinson dreamed of opening her own restaurant with her pint-sized business partner- her six-year old daughter, Morgan. When she realized there was an opportunity to turn that dream into a reality when she drove past a vacancy in Bloomfield, minutes away from her grandmother’s home- she knew it was time to take that leap of faith. The Mount Washington native has done just that through new restaurant, ‘Sugar and Smoke.’ Ms. Robinson along with Director of Sales, Gary White, Head Chef, Charles “Chaz” Smith, along with all of the ‘Sugar and Smoke’ staff plan to bring a new feel, experience, and taste to Pittsburgh’s Little Italy. “Chef Chaz is excited to share his cuisine creativity with the city. He put a-modern-day spin on down-home favorites including, grilled vegetable jambalaya and BBQ brisket,” Ms. Robinson said. “Bloomfield is evolving. There is a Japanese place down the street, a few Thai places. This town is transitioning into a different era and accommodating many different tastes for many different people,” Ms. Robinson said. People are encouraged to experience lunch, dinner, and(or) delicious desserts, in one of the ‘Sugar and Smoke’ dinning rooms, or outside patio. While a banquet hall and lounge is available to guests for more intimate and private gatherings. Ms. Robinson will be waiting to greet you at the door, serving up crab cakes, hush puppies, and more!
