Culture Fest Review & Rewind!

Culture Fest Review & Rewind! By: Paige Mitchell What are the two main ingredients that bring people together? Especially people of color... MUSIC AND FOOD! Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music, and arts. The people of the DMV came together to party, and as Offset from #Migos would say, ‘Do it for the culture, they gonna flock like vultures.’ Washington District Of Columbia hosted the ‘Culture Fest’ at the National Harbor June 8, 2019 from 1:00pm-9:00pm for the culture! The main stage featured live performances by; Image Band, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Roman Virgo, Timaya, Patrice Roberts, Skinny Fabulous, and Aidonia. #CultureFest attendee @sesay_said, “Man Culture Fest was such a vibe! This is what happens when Africans find each other at a function. Special shoutout to my new dance friends!” The outdoor celebration was filled with food, fun, music, dance, and art. DJ’s and live instrumental displays on every corner. People enjoying oxtails, curry shrimp, jerk chicken, veggies, rice & peas, and plantain everywhere you looked- cooked to pure delicious-ness from Caribbean and African vendors like; Crave It, Jammin Flava, Judy’s Island Grill, Junction Jamaican Restaurant, and more! DJ Trini, DJ Sam I Am, DJ Taf and others provided sounds from reggae and soca icons that kept people dancing. Reggae sensation @aidonia4thgenna said, “Culture Fest was a vibe!” The smell of jerk chicken and the sound of singing and celebrating people filled the air. Abigail Langwood said, “Caribbean music is colorful and diverse influenced by African and European culture. And nothing brings me more joy than events like this that celebrate Caribbean and African descent.” “We created Culture Fest because we wanted to bring a high end festival experience to people from all walks of life, across diverse communities,” Culture Fest Co-Founder, Lawrence Cox said.
