Younger Black Pittsburgh!

By: Paige K. Mitchell Have you heard of ‘Y.B.M.K.Q.’ - the Young Black Motivated Kings and Queens of Pittsburgh to be exact! These Kings and Queens of the community are youth based in Pittsburgh, PA. that came together for one reason, ‘empowerment!’ Tamia Coleman Of Y.B.M.K.Q. said, “In the constant face of discouragement and scrutiny we chose to stand apart and show the world that we are active, motivated, and empowered!” Their 3rd Annual Y.B.M.K.Q. Black Tie Gala and Book release took place on Saturday June 15, 2019. This sold out formal affair was filled with community leaders, prominent organizations, supporters, influencers, and our future-the YOUTH! “Atmospheres such as this are so important for our future leaders of tomorrow, and I hope that my words resound with you,” Nathaniel Carter Of ‘This Generation Cares’ said. Nathaniel Carter was one of the evenings speakers; alongside K. Chase Patterson; CEO of Urban Academy, and Soleil Meade of Soleil Branding Essentials. Soleil Meade shared a heartfelt but yet comedic letter that she wrote to her teenage self. “My letter to my teenage self helped me realize that God was stirring things up inside of me for my future self, before I had any idea,” Soleil Meade said. Young Black Pittsburgh’s own, Brian Burley hosted the program. While Nate Walker and Dejah Monea blessed the audience with their vocals. Y.B.M.K.Q. honored the evenings speakers, and also surprised the McKeesport Black Student Union with an award. Gracelyn Walker said, “We are so glad to have some support from our community and friends. It took us a couple months to make the Black Student Union happen, so this recognition means a lot to us.” And to top the evening off, the official ‘Younger Black Pittsburgh’ Book was Released highlighting high school and college students who are Pittsburgh natives making a difference. “To know these young bosses is an honor,” Dejah Monea said. This was definitely a Front Paige News approved event, and we are already looking forward to next year.
